MMR (measles, mumps, rubella vaccine)

The MMR vaccine helps protect against measles, mumps, rubella. It was usually given to children when they are 12 months and 18 months old. Some older children are also offered it.

It was replaced by the MMRV vaccine used in the childhood vaccination schedule on 1st January 2025, to include cover for Chicken Pox.

The MMR vaccine is still available for older children and adults born on or before 31 December 2019 who were not vaccinated against measles, mumps and rubella when they were younger.

• Individuals 12 months or older should receive one dose at an elected date. A second dose should be administered at least 1 month after the first dose (2)

• If the patient has previously received a single dose of MMR vaccine, a second dose may be administered to complete the schedule (6).
